Welcome to the Trying out Disney-Inspired Recipes series! For the first blog of this series, I made beignets, which look so delicious, from The Princess and the Frog. Here’s a picture to remind you of Tiana’s specialty if you’ve forgotten-the following picture does not belong to me.
It took me about 30 minutes to prepare the dough and another 10-15 minutes slicing it into squares and frying the pieces. They turned out to be delicious! I mostly used this recipe but I had to tweak it a bit, so I’ll be posting the recipe that worked for me and I’ll link it at the bottom of this post. Other than that, I took a little bit of visual help from this video by Binging with Babish. Take a look at the final result below.
Beignets are best served with tea or coffee and apparently, they’re a very popular breakfast item in New Orleans. However, since I wasn’t used to the taste and neither was the rest of my family, I ended up adding a few changes of my own after a recommendation from my aunt. I cut the bottom of the beignets with a knife and stuffed some with Nutella and some with Strawberry Jam. I’m sure there probably are a few other not-as-messy methods of doing this but I’m just another sixteen-year-old who isn’t very passionate when it comes to being in the kitchen, so I took the easy way out. Finally, I covered the top with a lot of icing sugar using a sieve and served them.
